As we move uncertainly into 2016, reflect briefly on President Obama’s words at his December 2013 eulogy for Nelson Mandela:
“Around the world today, we still see children suffering from hunger and disease.
We still see run-down schools. We still see young people without prospects for the future. Around the world today, men and women are still imprisoned for their political beliefs, and are still persecuted for what they look like, and how they worship, and who they love. After this great liberator is laid to rest, when we have returned to our cities and villages, and rejoined our daily routines, let us search then for his strength — for his largeness of spirit. With honesty, regardless of our station or circumstance,” he went on, “we must ask: How well have I applied his lessons in my own life?”
New beneficiaries.
With the ongoing support from so many who have ‘applied his lessons’, we are so pleased to be able to tell you that we have been able to both increase our support to 1000 Hills Community Helpers at Inchanga and to the Community Outreach Centre at Marionnhill and to start modestly supporting two new crèches in surrounding communities.
The Esibusisweni Crèche and Orphanage
is in KwaNyuswa near Botha’s Hill – just past Rob Roy, 10 minutes along the MR528. Gogo Busiswe Dlamini owns the property and set up the crèche over 20 years ago – “Gogo started this crèche and orphanage because of her love of children and the need for care in the community.”
No funding is received from Government.
The single rondavel, “up a steep drive” had limited facilities but a water tank, toilets and kitchen have been donated by local NGOs and church groups. (The JoJo tank was recently damaged during a storm and needs replacing. Water remains a problem.)
Esibusisweni Creche and Orphanage is home to 12 orphans while some 50 children attend the crèche during the week.
KidzAid support will be directly focussed on providing food – a nourishing meal a day helps so towards physical and mental development.
Last but not least – no, in fact most important of all, a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year to all who so generously support us.
